Over the years in Talent Acquisition, I have seen candidates hit the self-destruct button during the job offer stage. The Job Offer Process Is Filled with Landmines!

Here’s what not to do when you receive a job offer:

Do not ignore the offer letter expiration date.

Always immediately acknowledge receipt of the offer and thank both the Recruiter and Hiring Manager.

What If You Have Other job offers?

You should let your Recruiter know during the interview process if you are interviewing with other potential employers. If you receive an offer from the company, it’s critical that you inform the Recruiter that you have other offers coming in and indicate the anticipated timeframe.

Don’t Drag Your Feet on Background Verification

Most offers are contingent upon successful completion of background verification. If you have been emailed a link to complete background verification, complete it within 24 hours.

Be Upfront About Compensation

Do not try to play the Recruiter and Hiring Manager against each other regarding compensation.

The offer process is a great time to build rapport with a potential new employer. Try to lay a good foundation for a successful career at a new company instead of being perceived as a high maintenance new hire.
